Huawei's HarmonyOS 6 operating system includes a previously undisclosed feature designed to automatically protect users from verification code SMS bombardments. The system detects when a user is being targeted by a high volume of these messages and consequently mutes the phone's notification sounds. This functionality was revealed by a technology blogger.
Beyond simply muting the device, the system is programmed to automatically restore normal ringtone and notification sounds once the excessive message influx ends. This ensures users are not permanently silenced and can receive important communications after the barrage stops, mitigating potential disruption and preventing missed calls or messages.
This protective measure appears to build upon Huawei's ongoing efforts to enhance user security and privacy on its devices. In April, the company released HarmonyOS version 6.0.0.328 SP58, which introduced "Star Shield" anti-fraud capabilities.
Additionally, the mobile settings menu now features a "Communication Protection" function. When enabled, this feature provides a suite of security options, including call and message interception, detection during video calls, and protection against fake base stations, aiming to create a more secure communication environment for users.
