HarmonyOS ranks as world's third-largest mobile OS, ministry reports

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has stated that HarmonyOS has become the world's third-largest mobile operating system. The ministry also reported that the number of devices within the OpenHarmony ecosystem has surpassed 1.35 billion.

The MIIT indicated that OpenHarmony-based systems are already deployed at scale in various sectors, including automotive, home appliances, and the metallurgy and petrochemical industries. These figures were disclosed during a press conference held by China's State Council Information Office on August 26, focusing on the nation's industrial development.

This development positions HarmonyOS behind Android and iOS globally. While specific market share figures were not provided, achieving the third-largest position represents a significant milestone for the Chinese-developed operating system.

The growth in the OpenHarmony ecosystem highlights, according to the ministry, the operating system's versatility and its applicability across diverse industries, ranging from consumer electronics to industrial applications.
