Harry Potter Series: New Actors for Dumbledore and Snape Announced
The first adult cast members for the upcoming "Harry Potter" series have been revealed. John Lithgow will play Dumbledore and Paapa Essiedu takes on the role of Snape. Casting for the main trio is still underway.

Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed the initial cast for the forthcoming "Harry Potter" television series. The production is set to feature several well-known actors in adult roles, while the search for the actors who will portray Harry, Hermione, and Ron continues.
Among the newly announced cast members are Oscar nominee John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. British comedian Paul Whitehouse will portray caretaker Argus Filch, marking a return to the Potter universe after his scenes were featured in the deleted material of the "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" DVD.
The casting choices highlight the series' aim to bring fresh interpretations to the beloved characters. While the adult roles have now been filled, the casting process for the young main actors, expected to begin filming in late 2026 or early 2027, is still ongoing.
The series is slated to adapt all seven original "Harry Potter" books, offering fans an extended exploration of the wizarding world. The addition of these established actors promises a high-quality continuation of the popular fantasy franchise.
