HARTING Introduces Compact Connector for Increased Energy Density in Transport
HARTING Technologiegruppe has released the new Han® 4 HPR connector, offering higher current capacity in a smaller footprint for transport applications, reducing space and weight.
HARTING Technologiegruppe has introduced its new Han® 4 HPR connector, designed to meet the demand for increased energy density in the transport sector and machine building. The new connector combines proven robustness for railway applications with a current carrying capacity of up to 70 A, while significantly reducing installation space and weight.
The company states that the Han® 4 HPR offers the same power transmission capabilities as larger, Han® 6-sized connectors but in a more compact form factor, freeing up valuable installation space. For instance, in the robust Han® HPR housing type used in the railway industry, the Han® 4 size reduces the required mounting surface by up to 55 percent compared to the Han® 6 HPR.
Weight savings are also substantial. A fully equipped Han® 4 HPR connector weighs approximately 270 grams, compared to around 530 grams for an equivalent Han® 6 HPR. This reduction is partly achieved by using a plastic holder instead of metal. Importantly, the connector maintains high standards for robustness and protection classes, including IP68/IP69, and certifications like IEC 45545 and UL1977.
HARTING positions this new connector as a solution to a growing need for higher power densities in applications where space and weight are critical. The smaller size and reduced weight contribute to improved energy efficiency and more sustainable designs, particularly for vehicle manufacturing.
