HARTING to exit solenoid market as part of automotive restructuring
HARTING Technology Group is discontinuing its solenoid business to pivot resources toward electric vehicle charging infrastructure, impacting 47 jobs in Germany.
HARTING Technology Group has announced a restructuring of its automotive division, which includes the phase-out of its solenoid business unit. The company expects to cease all production related to internal combustion engine components by the end of 2027, with final customer deliveries scheduled for June of that year.
CEO Philip Harting cited intense global cost pressures and increased competition from Asian markets as primary drivers for the shift. To maintain competitiveness, the company is relocating specific functions from Germany to its facilities in Romania. The move impacts approximately 47 positions at the German site, with management currently working alongside the works council to address the transition for affected staff.
The group is shifting its strategic focus entirely toward charging equipment for electric vehicles, which it identifies as its primary growth area. Despite the contraction in the traditional automotive sector, HARTING confirmed that it will fulfill all existing contracts and delivery schedules while transitioning its portfolio.
