Haver & Boecker collects 15 tons of plastic waste for recycling
Plastic remnants generated during machine manufacturing were collected and recycled into new packaging materials. The initiative demonstrated the feasibility of a closed-loop system for plastic packaging.
German machinery manufacturer Haver & Boecker has successfully completed a collection campaign, gathering plastic packaging remnants from its production processes for recycling.
The company announced it collected a total of 15 tons of plastic cuttings, which were then processed by manufacturer Berry Global into new PE plastic bags at its facility in Steinfeld. The objective was to demonstrate that the recycling loop for plastic packaging can be closed by utilizing them as a valuable raw material.
Haver & Boecker's ADAMS® technology is used for filling powdered products into PE containers. The company states these sacks are made from a mono-material, making them easily recyclable, unlike packaging made from composite materials. Additionally, the sacks are designed to be completely emptied of residues.
The company emphasized plastic's positive attributes when used responsibly and recycled properly. However, challenges remain in consumer and user attitudes towards correct disposal and recycling of plastic packaging. Haver & Boecker's campaign aims to raise awareness of plastic's value as a recyclable material.
