German machinery manufacturer Haver & Boecker OHG has introduced a new Industry 4.0-based bag scanner designed to enhance the efficiency of bulk goods packaging and reduce error rates.

The technology's first implementation took place at the Croatian cement producer NEXE d.d. in Našice. The new scanner is engineered to identify and document errors within the packaging process in real-time, thereby decreasing the number of rejected bags and saving on material and energy costs.

Haver & Boecker states that the bag scanner also contributes to minimizing product waste and improving the cleanliness of the work environment. "Our entire production is cleaner than ever before," commented Marko Umiljanović, head of the engineering department at NEXE d.d. He also highlighted the benefits of the SEAL technology, which ensures a tight seal on the bags and reduces material waste.

NEXE d.d. has been using Haver & Boecker's 16-spout ROTO-PACKER® RVT SEAL Edition packing machine since 2019. The company uses it to fill cement into 25 and 40 kg paper valve bags, primarily sold through DIY stores to end consumers.

The development of the bag scanner took approximately one year. Its integration into the existing packing line was completed swiftly. The system utilizes QR codes printed on the bags to monitor production and document any errors.
