Hearing Aid Acousticians Guild Criticizes Health Insurance Association's Demands

The German Federal Guild of Hearing Aid Acousticians (BIHA) has expressed strong criticism regarding proposed reforms to the supply of hearing aids, put forth by the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds (GKV Spitzenverband). BIHA stated that these proposals could potentially degrade the quality of audiological care.

The guild warns that the planned changes might lead to a reduction in audiological care standards within Germany. BIHA emphasizes that the current system ensures high-quality treatment and stresses the necessity of maintaining professional expertise and patient-centered services.

"Particularly concerning are the demands to cover only certain parts of the costs for aids, while simultaneously requiring additional services without adequate compensation," BIHA noted. "It is crucial that hearing care providers can continue to guarantee a high standard of quality and individualized service."

BIHA has highlighted the systemic relevance of the hearing aid acoustician profession and its role within the healthcare system. The guild has also actively promoted professional training and international cooperation, exemplified by the Campus Hörakustik in Lübeck, to bolster the profession's expertise and future prospects.
