Heart Aerospace's Electric X1 Aircraft Completes First Flight
Swedish aerospace company Heart Aerospace announced its X1 demonstrator completed its first manned flight. The aircraft is the largest battery-powered electric plane to date.

Swedish aerospace company Heart Aerospace announced on August 12 that its X1 demonstrator aircraft completed its first manned flight at Plattsburgh International Airport in New York.
The aircraft has a wingspan of 106 feet (32.3 meters) and a length of 76 feet (7.1 meters). Its takeoff weight exceeds 25,000 pounds (over 11,300 kilograms), making it the largest battery-powered electric aircraft to have flown to date. The flight was conducted under an experimental special airworthiness certificate (SAC-EC) issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The flight lasted approximately 27 minutes, reaching a maximum altitude of 1,100 feet (335 meters). The test included taxiing, takeoff, climb, maneuvering, and landing. The aircraft's all-electric propulsion system delivered over 1 megawatt of power. According to the company, the electricity cost for the entire mission was approximately $5.
Anders Forslund, founder and CEO of Heart Aerospace, stated that the X1's first flight demonstrated the capability for electric flight at the scale of commercial airliners. The X1 serves as a full-scale validation platform for the company's subsequent 30-seat hybrid-electric regional airliner project, ES-30, aiming to validate flight characteristics, key technologies, and gather operational data.
