Heide to Use Federal Infrastructure Funds for School Renovation

The town of Heide in Schleswig-Holstein has decided to utilize the entire 9.6 million euros from the federal government's special infrastructure fund for the renovation of St.-Georg-School. The town council made this unanimous decision on Wednesday evening, aiming to minimize administrative burden and maximize the project's impact.
Mayor Oliver Schmidt-Gutzat (SPD) stated that managing a single large project significantly reduces bureaucratic effort compared to processing applications for multiple smaller initiatives. This singular focus is expected to considerably lessen the administrative workload for the municipality.
The council also emphasized the importance of public visibility for the project. A substantial renovation of St.-Georg-School funded from a dedicated source will be more apparent to citizens than if funds were dispersed across various smaller projects. This approach also ensures that all allocated funds are utilized.
St.-Georg-School suffered damage in a fire in 2022, necessitating extensive repairs. The renovation will primarily focus on improving fire safety measures, as well as enhancing accessibility and updating the building's technical systems.
