Heise Online tested the real-world range of an e-bike

The technology publication Heise Online has tested the Cilo Tanay HX e-bike from Switzerland to verify its claimed range of 153 kilometers. The test aimed to determine the actual distance the bicycle could travel under specific conditions.

The tested bike, priced at approximately 6,500 Euros, is equipped with a 708 Wh Darfon battery and an 85 Nm Shimano EP6 motor. Heise Online conducted the test under favorable circumstances: flat terrain, an elevation gain of about 400 meters, and moderate temperatures, although it rained initially. The test also included city traffic and knobby tires, which typically reduce range.

The range was measured along the "Mauerweg" (Wall Path), a route formerly a border zone. The results of the test and recommendations for future tours are presented in a video. Such practical tests provide consumers with valuable information about the actual performance of e-bikes, which can differ from manufacturer-stated figures.

Heise Online, part of Heise Gruppe GmbH & Co. KG, is known for its in-depth technology articles and reviews. This hands-on test offers insights into the e-bike market's progress and consumer expectations regarding electric cycling capabilities.
