Helga María fishing vessel reports good catch
Fishing company Brim hf.'s vessel Helga María has achieved good catches in recent weeks, landing approximately 180 tonnes of fish on its latest trip in the North Atlantic.
Fishing company Brim hf. reports that its vessel, the Helga María, has experienced successful fishing in recent weeks in the mountainous region of the North Atlantic. The most recent trip, concluding at the beginning of this week, yielded approximately 600 tubs, equating to around 180 tonnes of fish.
Skipper Friðleifur Einarsson described improved fishing conditions following a prolonged period of challenging weather. He noted that favorable weather has finally allowed for steadier fishing operations, crucial for maintaining production supply. Earlier in the year, the vessel had encountered severe weather that hampered activities.
The Helga María primarily targeted saithe in the mountainous area during its latest voyage. Einarsson mentioned efforts were made to avoid other species such as cod and haddock, with some success, despite their presence. The catch consisted of 65 tonnes of cod and 55 tonnes of saithe.
Einarsson highlighted that improved weather not only enhances fishing stability but also benefits the crew after enduring extended stormy periods. He added that with the Viðey production facility currently undergoing maintenance, only two trawlers are supplying fish for processing, underscoring the importance of the Helga María's catch.
