Hello Group, a Chinese technology company, has signed an agreement to establish its regional center for East China in Nanjing. The facility will be located in the Gulou High-tech Park and represents a total investment of approximately 1 billion yuan (around $137 million USD).
The new regional center is slated to become an innovation and research hub, employing several hundred people. It aims to leverage the scientific and talent resources from Nanjing's universities to oversee operations in the Nanjing metropolitan area, as well as in the provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang, fostering a significant regional headquarters economy.
As part of the collaboration, Hello Group plans to deploy smart battery swap stations throughout Nanjing. These stations will offer integrated services including electric bicycle rentals, battery replacement, and other amenities. This model, which separates the vehicle from the battery, is intended to significantly reduce safety hazards associated with unofficial charging of electric bikes in residential areas.
A spokesperson for the company noted that the smart swap cabinets are equipped with adaptable batteries designed for stable operation in extreme temperatures. The units also feature real-time smoke and temperature monitoring, independent fire suppression systems, and are designed to be waterproof, dustproof, and explosion-proof for outdoor use, with 24-hour customer support to ensure safety.
