Hello Sunshine cuts half of workforce following ownership buyout
Media company Hello Sunshine has laid off approximately 50 percent of its staff less than three weeks after founder Reese Witherspoon reacquired the business.

Hello Sunshine, the media company founded by Reese Witherspoon, has reduced its workforce by approximately 30 employees, representing half of its total staff. The restructuring follows Witherspoon's recent reacquisition of the firm, which she previously sold to Candle Media in 2021.
Reports indicate the layoffs primarily affect the company's direct-to-consumer division. This unit included the home-organization brand The Home Edit and the Gen-Z media platform Sunnie. With these exits, the firm plans to pivot its focus back to core operations, including television and film production, partnership marketing, and the Reese’s Book Club franchise.
The reorganization comes less than three weeks after Witherspoon partnered with French conglomerate Mediawan to purchase the company. Industry estimates suggest the buyback price was significantly lower than the $900 million valuation assigned during the 2021 sale to the Blackstone-backed Candle Media.
Hello Sunshine has not issued a formal statement regarding the job cuts or its long-term strategy shift.
