The City of Helsinki and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening and deepening cooperation between the two cities. The agreement was signed in Tokyo by Helsinki Mayor Daniel Sazonov and Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko, during a visit led by Helsinki's mayor, one of the city's largest delegations to Japan in recent years.
The cooperation pact builds upon existing collaboration and expands it to encompass seven key areas. These include improving urban quality of life, promoting green and sustainable solutions, developing digital services, and enhancing economic ties.
Further collaboration will focus on cultural exchange, sports initiatives, and the sharing of innovations and technology. Both cities anticipate that deeper ties will foster mutual learning and growth opportunities.
The signing underscores Helsinki's strategic focus on the Asian market and its engagement with Japan. It provides a concrete framework for future joint projects and bolsters the global standing of both cities.
