Helsinki Biennial 2027 Announces Theme and First Artists

Helsinki Biennial is set to return in the summer of 2027, having announced its theme and the initial list of participating artists. The previous edition of the event drew a record number of visitors, exceeding half a million.

The theme for the upcoming biennial is 'Unknowns.' The first 12 artists who will showcase their work have also been revealed. This edition will see the art festival extend across the historic island of Vallisaari, Esplanade park, and HAM Helsinki Art Museum.

Vallisaari provides a distinctive backdrop for the biennial, merging abundant biodiversity with a significant cultural history. The island, previously inaccessible to the public, was opened for the first time as part of the biennial in 2021.

Helsinki aims to boost cultural tourism and showcase the city to a global art audience through the biennial. The event underscores the role of local art and culture in enhancing the city's appeal.
