Herbal and Fruit Teas Maintain Strong Popularity in Germany

German consumers purchased over 38,500 tons of herbal and fruit teas in 2025, underscoring their sustained popularity. Demand for blended varieties is particularly notable, with German manufacturers actively creating new combinations by leveraging natural ingredients. The market also includes functional teas and cold-brew options designed to meet consumer needs for convenience and added health benefits.

Classic single-ingredient teas such as peppermint, chamomile, and fennel remain popular, alongside traditional blends like fennel-anise-caraway. Consumer purchasing habits are reflected across a variety of sales channels. While the grocery retail sector remains the primary point of sale, specialty tea shops also maintain a significant role.

Germany's tea specialty stores serve as popular destinations for consumers seeking quality teas, often sold loose. Despite general consumer restraint due to inflation, sales through this channel saw a decrease of only one percentage point in 2025 compared to the previous year. This suggests a continued consumer preference for quality and personalized service.

Online sales and mail order also experienced slight growth, as did tea sales within the gastronomy sector. The Matcha trend, in particular, has stimulated demand in the food service industry. The overall market volume reached 57,237 tons in 2025, with herbal and fruit teas constituting a substantial portion of this total.
