Xal'atath is scheduled to arrive on the game's Public Test Realm (PTR) next Monday, with the official release set for September 28. This significant content addition comes after Blizzard shifted Heroes of the Storm into maintenance mode in 2022, with subsequent updates primarily focused on minor balance adjustments and bug fixes.
The character Xal'atath originates from the World of Warcraft universe, first appearing as a vocal entity associated with Shadow Priest artifacts in the Legion expansion. She is described as a central antagonist in the current "Midnight" expansion. The game's transition to maintenance mode in 2022 indicated an end to major content development.
Heros of the Storm is a 5v5 team-based online battle arena game featuring characters from various Blizzard franchises. Blizzard also stated that another new hero will be revealed at a later date.
