Hexagon Acquires Sensor Specialist Guidance Marine
Technology company Hexagon has agreed to acquire Guidance Marine, a UK-based firm specializing in sensors for vessel positioning. The deal adds relative positioning technology to Hexagon's existing marine offerings.
Hexagon announced an agreement to acquire Guidance Marine, a Leicester, UK-based company that develops radar, laser, vision, and microwave-based sensor technologies. Founded in 1991, Guidance Marine serves customers in over 40 countries.
The company's sensors measure a vessel's position relative to nearby structures, such as offshore platforms, wind turbines, and quaysides. These technologies are integrated with major Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems, which enable vessels to maintain position without anchoring.
Hexagon stated that Guidance Marine's technology complements its existing marine capabilities, which include GNSS positioning, correction services, and assured positioning solutions. The addition of relative positioning sensors aims to create a more comprehensive vessel positioning portfolio.
The acquisition is expected to deepen Hexagon's relationships with DP system suppliers and vessel operators. It will also broaden Hexagon's exposure to growing markets like offshore wind and port automation, where precise station-keeping is increasingly critical.
Guidance Marine reported approximately EUR 22 million in revenue for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2025. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2026, with Guidance Marine becoming part of Hexagon’s NovAtel Positioning Division.
