Stockholm, Sweden – Hexagon's Manufacturing Intelligence division has introduced a new global training technology that leverages digital twins to assist manufacturers in training machinists and metrology specialists. The HxGN Machine Trainer system aims to bridge the skills gap in the manufacturing sector.

The technology combines hardware that realistically replicates machinery with manufacturing simulation and operator software. This allows trainees to gain practical experience without the risk of damaging expensive equipment, wasting materials, or consuming valuable production resources. The launch addresses significant labor shortages reported by manufacturing firms worldwide.

Hexagon states the system simplifies the preparation of inexperienced staff for factory demands. By creating digital twins of specific machine brands, types, and configurations, training can be customized. This ensures a smooth transition from the HxGN Machine Trainer to real machines, as the simulator is designed for maximum realism.

The HxGN Machine Trainer can be configured with up to three CNC controllers from manufacturers such as Fanuc, Heidenhain, and Siemens. It utilizes Hexagon's NCSIMUL CNC simulation software and I++ Simulator software for metrology process simulation. Alexander Freund, director of product management at Hexagon, noted that virtual training enhances safety for staff and equipment while providing a realistic learning environment.
