High Schoolers Turn $1 into Over $2,000 in One Week

What if you were given just one dollar and a week to turn it into one hundred? This was the challenge posed by documentary filmmakers to dozens of high school students last year. Two participants, Darrick Ramsey and Alexis Jordan, not only met the goal but far surpassed it, with Ramsey earning $2,065 in just seven days.

Ramsey and Jordan admitted to feeling anxious about the task initially. Their strategy, however, did not rely on expensive products but on leveraging existing relationships and creativity. Jordan focused on offering services such as yard and church cleaning, while also creating and selling homemade Kool-Aid pickles, which became an unexpected hit.

Ramsey, meanwhile, offered pressure washing and car detailing services. He quickly found clients within his community willing to pay for his work. Both students demonstrated that a small starting capital is not an obstacle to success when one is willing to work hard and utilize resources creatively.

Their experiences were recently captured in the documentary "Learn to Earn: A Student's Journey From $1 to $100." The film chronicles the students' journey, their fear of failure, and their eventual ingenuity that led to remarkable results within a tight deadline.

Jordan, now 19, has continued her entrepreneurial path by launching Blended Threads LLC, a business focused on childhood diabetes. She has also written a children's book on the topic and works as a speaker. Ramsey is continuing to develop his own business in pressure washing and car detailing.
