Highstar Introduces Full-Chain Battery Cell Portfolio for AI Data Centers

Highstar, based in Nantong, China, unveiled its full-chain battery cell solution for artificial intelligence data centers (AIDCs) on July 27, 2026. The announcement was made at the 2026 GGII Energy Storage Industry Summit.

The new portfolio addresses three key power layers: grey-space systems, including Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) and high-voltage direct current (HVDC) systems; white-space battery backup units (BBUs); and grid-side energy storage.

As AI workloads increase rack density and load volatility, data centers require faster response times and more dependable backup power. Highstar has developed specific cells to meet these demands. For grey-space applications, the company offers 85Ah high-rate lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells designed for rapid power delivery and sustained backup under frequent pulse conditions. Additionally, 50Ah sodium-ion battery cells are available for operation in a wide temperature range of -40°C to 80°C.

For white-space BBU applications, Highstar provides tabless cylindrical cells in both 18650 and 21700 formats. These cells utilize LFP and high-nickel NMC chemistries and are engineered for high instantaneous power output, low internal resistance, and enhanced safety.

The grid-side energy storage component utilizes 314Ah lithium-ion cells and 160Ah sodium-ion cells. This integrated portfolio aims to reduce complexity for power equipment suppliers, system integrators, and data center operators, providing a unified approach to energy management from the rack level to the grid connection.
