Himax to Showcase High-Brightness LCoS Microdisplay for AR Glasses at CES 2025
Himax Technologies is set to unveil its new 400,000 nits ultra-luminous color sequential front-lit LCoS microdisplay at CES 2025. The technology aims to enhance augmented reality glasses.
Himax Technologies announced it will present its proprietary ultra-luminous 400K nit Color Sequential Front-lit LCoS Microdisplay at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. This new display technology aims to significantly improve performance for augmented reality (AR) glasses.
The microdisplay offers up to 400,000 nits of brightness, designed for superior visibility in bright outdoor environments and reduced power consumption. Himax states the solution is well-suited for AR glasses intended for outdoor use and demanding long battery life. Compact size is crucial for wearable devices, and this microdisplay boasts a form factor under 0.5 cubic centimeters.
A demonstration at the event will feature a proof-of-concept AR glasses prototype integrating the Himax microdisplay with third-party optics. This prototype is reported to deliver over 1,000 nits brightness to the eye, making it suitable for both outdoor and everyday use.
Himax has a history of over a decade in LCoS technology development and production. The company believes its new microdisplay will support the growth of the AR market and meet the demands of major industry players for mass-producible solutions.
