Historic Railcars Launch as The Magenta Train in Charlotte's NoDa Neighborhood

The Aberdeen Carolina & Western Railway (ACWR) is launching The Magenta Train Charlotte, a new destination for events and community gatherings, in Charlotte's NoDa neighborhood. The official opening and media event is set for Thursday, October 22, 2026, with a public open house to follow.

The new venue utilizes meticulously restored passenger railcars dating back over a century, previously used for events like the U.S. Open golf tournament and the Carolina Christmas Train. The Magenta Train aims to provide a unique setting for celebrations and gatherings in Charlotte, relocating from its previous base in Pinehurst.

While a portion of the fleet will become permanently based in Charlotte in March 2027, some railcars will continue to operate from Pinehurst. The Charlotte location will offer rental spaces for weddings, corporate events, and private parties, alongside a distinctive bar experience called Engine Room 87 Locomotive Bar, housed within a locomotive.

The public and media are invited to tour the historic railcars and learn about upcoming programming during the open house. Visitors should be aware that the railcars are not wheelchair accessible and a liability waiver is required for entry.
