History of Artificial Intelligence: Bosch Reviews Development Milestones
Robert Bosch GmbH has released an overview of the history of artificial intelligence (AI) development, tracing key milestones from early theories to modern applications.

Robert Bosch GmbH has outlined a historical review of artificial intelligence (AI), detailing key milestones in its development. The company notes that research into AI began in the mid-20th century with the objective of creating machines capable of human-like learning and thinking.
The foundational concepts for AI trace back to 1936 when mathematician Alan Turing proposed theories on computing machines that could perform cognitive processes. However, the term 'artificial intelligence' was coined in 1956 at a conference at Dartmouth College, where the first AI program, 'Logic Theorist,' was also developed.
Technological advancements have significantly propelled AI forward. By 1966, the first chatbot, ELIZA, was created. AI entered the medical field in 1972 with the MYCIN expert system. In 1986, the 'NETtalk' program gave computers a voice, and in 1997, IBM's Deep Blue defeated chess world champion Garry Kasparov.
The 21st century has seen AI become increasingly integrated into daily life. Apple launched its Siri digital assistant in 2011, the same year IBM's Watson won a U.S. quiz show, demonstrating natural language processing capabilities. More recently, since 2021, text-to-image models like OpenAI's DALL-E have created a sensation, enabling the generation of detailed images from textual descriptions.
