Hitachi Automotive Systems, Ltd. has announced that its Advanced Driver Assistance System Electronic Control Unit (ADAS ECU) has been selected for Mitsubishi Motors Corporation's eK Series vehicles. This includes the eK Wagon, eK Custom, and eK Space models, which were updated with enhanced preventative safety features and launched in May 2018.

The ADAS ECU integrates control for multiple driver assistance systems, such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), and Lane Departure Warning (LDW), into a single unit. Hitachi Automotive Systems originally developed this technology in 2007, drawing upon its approximately 40 years of experience with engine control units.

Mitsubishi Motors' eK Series vehicles are equipped as standard with an autonomous emergency braking system designed to reduce or avoid collisions with preceding vehicles or pedestrians through alarms and automatic braking. The vehicles also include features to prevent unintended acceleration and provide collision mitigation assistance.

Targeting elderly drivers, these vehicles meet the Japanese government's "Safety Support Car S (Support Car S) Basic Plus" safety standard. Higher trim levels also include the Lane Departure Warning system (LDW), meeting the "Support Car S Wide" designation.

Hitachi Automotive Systems aims to contribute to the prevention of traffic accidents, including those involving elderly drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists, through the continued development and application of its ADAS ECU technology.
