Hitachi launches IoT platform for smart building management

Hitachi has developed a new IoT platform to monitor and manage building operations, integrating cloud technologies to improve efficiency and tenant comfort in Japan.

1 November 2026

Hitachi has unveiled an IoT platform designed to centralize the management of building systems, including elevators, escalators, and HVAC units. The solution, which falls under the company’s Lumada portfolio, aims to streamline operations and enhance comfort for building occupants through real-time monitoring and data analytics.

Developed in collaboration with Microsoft Japan, the platform utilizes Azure and Dynamics 365 cloud services. It is primarily targeted at developers of large office complexes, allowing them to monitor multiple facilities simultaneously. By synthesizing equipment performance data with occupancy and foot-traffic analytics, the system identifies inefficiencies and assists in optimizing maintenance schedules.

The launch responds to a broader industry shift toward digitalization as urban office markets face increased competition and changing workplace requirements. Hitachi executive Shinya Mitsudomi stated that the platform is intended to support the development of smart buildings and cities. Hitachi plans to continue its partnership with Microsoft through the Lumada Alliance Program, with an objective to scale these building-management solutions for international markets.
