Hitachi Unveils Wooden Data Center Design
Hitachi has introduced a new wooden data center model, aiming to reduce costs and environmental impact through modular design and sustainable materials.
Hitachi has announced a new wooden data center model, an expansion of its "Flexible Design Container" series, which aims to lower construction costs and shorten deployment times. The design incorporates wood in structural components, allowing for better integration into urban environments and carbon dioxide absorption.
The modular design facilitates installation in existing factory spaces without requiring large-scale power infrastructure. Hitachi estimates that the use of wood in construction can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 20 tons compared to conventional materials.
Wood is utilized in the main load-bearing structures, such as pillars and beams. Its lighter weight and ease of handling compared to reinforced concrete support prefabricated assembly, enhancing construction efficiency. The exterior walls also feature wood, intended to harmonize with the surrounding landscape.
The data center meets high structural integrity requirements, including the highest seismic safety standards, and is designed for a lifespan exceeding 30 years. It includes safety features like a gas fire suppression system and access control systems for intrusion prevention.
