H&M Enhances Workforce Planning with Board Platform
Fashion giant H&M has upgraded its workforce planning with an integrated solution leveraging advanced analytics. The system aims to enhance agility in the rapidly evolving retail sector.

Fashion retailer H&M has improved its workforce planning through the implementation of an integrated solution on the Board platform. This updated system allows for more flexible and data-driven planning, which is essential in the fast-paced retail environment.
H&M's objective has been to create a more agile and adaptable workforce to meet changing customer expectations and industry dynamics. The company has expanded its use of the Board system since 2012, evolving it from an initial reporting tool to a comprehensive workforce planning and management system named SYNAPS.
The SYNAPS system enables H&M to monitor and analyze data with greater accuracy and speed. In 2012, the company used 12 key performance indicators (KPIs) and reviewed data daily; currently, it utilizes 160 KPIs, with data refreshable every 15 minutes. This allows for quicker responses to shifts in sales and customer traffic.
A key development was addressing the diverse needs of different stakeholders. The system aims to optimize profitability, ensure an excellent in-store customer experience, and ensure employees focus on productive and meaningful tasks. The solution reduces guesswork and supports decision-making through predictive analytics.
H&M's initiative demonstrates how large organizations can leverage integrated analytics and self-service capabilities to streamline their HR operations and boost competitiveness.
