Network connectivity solutions provider HMS Networks has published a guide detailing the process for creating backups of its Ewon devices, including the Cosy and Flexy models, utilizing the Ebuddy software. The documentation aims to assist users in managing their device configurations for various operational needs.

The Ebuddy software allows users to generate backup files containing the current configuration of an Ewon device. These backups serve multiple purposes, including facilitating technical support analysis, enabling restoration of a device to a previous state, or cloning the configuration of one Ewon device onto another. The company notes that when migrating configurations to new devices, a specific wizard must be run to ensure proper registration within the Talk2M service.

While Ebuddy provides a method for backup, HMS Networks recommends using the device's web interface as a primary option, especially for devices running firmware version 15.0s1 or later. This is due to security changes that disable FTP by default on newer firmware, which is necessary for Ebuddy to retrieve the backup files. Users who wish to use Ebuddy must ensure FTP is enabled via the device's web interface if encountering issues.

The guide outlines the step-by-step procedure, starting with downloading and installing Ebuddy, connecting the Ewon device locally or via Ecatcher, and then initiating the backup process within the software. Users are prompted to enter device credentials and specify a storage location for the backup file. The Ebuddy software is available for download from HMS Networks' website, with specific instructions provided for enabling FTP if required.
