PEAK-System, a part of HMS Networks, has launched PCAN-Explorer 7, a significant update to its professional software for analyzing, monitoring, and simulating CAN networks. The new version fully supports the emerging CAN XL standard, enabling faster data rates and larger data payloads crucial for next-generation automotive and industrial applications.

The PCAN-Explorer 7 supports CAN XL at speeds up to 20 Mbit/s with a payload of 2,048 Bytes. It also allows the assignment of multiple description databases per connection, simplifying parallel work with various databases and reducing manual merging efforts. The integration of Python scripting introduces a modern automation environment, particularly beneficial for automotive testing applications.

A new licensing system based on CodeMeter is introduced, offering users choices between single-user or floating licenses. Floating licenses facilitate shared access within teams, while portable USB license dongles are available for single-user licenses. Trial licenses are also provided for users to test the software.

Further enhancements include fine-grained trace playback with step control and breakpoints, enabling precise test and replay scenarios. Support for the J1939 FD protocol is added, catering to engineers in heavy-duty and off-highway sectors. The software also highlights data changes in the receive list, aiding in the real-time identification of dynamic values and anomalies.

Kristofer Koch, Product Manager for PE7, stated that the goal was to anticipate the shift to CAN XL and ensure users are future-proof. He added that these advanced capabilities were delivered without altering the familiar interface and workflows of version 6, ensuring a smooth transition for long-time users.
