Hohhot–Beihai Expressway completes final section in China
The 2,803-kilometer Hohhot–Beihai Expressway is now fully connected following the opening of the final segment in Hunan Province.

The Hohhot–Beihai Expressway (G59) reached full operational status on November 1 with the opening of the segment between Zhangjiajie and Gaoping. This 57.4-kilometer addition serves as the final link in the 2,803-kilometer project connecting Inner Mongolia in the north to the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in the south.
Designed with four lanes and a speed limit of 100 km/h, the new section traverses the mountainous Wuling region. Key engineering challenges during construction included the Dongtingxi Yuanshui Bridge and the extensive Yuanguping tunnel, both of which were critical to completing the route.
As the seventh north-south artery in China’s national expressway network, the G59 is expected to reduce traffic density on existing corridors such as the Baotou–Maoming and Erlianhot–Guangzhou highways. The completed route provides a more direct path for cargo and passenger transit from Central China to the Beibu Gulf economic zone.
