Holding multiple jobs simultaneously increases among younger workers
An increasing number of employees, particularly younger generations, are holding more than one job at a time. This trend, known as 'parallel work', shows a significant rise.

The practice of holding multiple jobs simultaneously, termed 'parallel work', is becoming more prevalent, extending beyond typical side hustles to potentially include two full-time roles. A recent study by Intch, analyzing the career histories of over 142,000 employees, indicates that this phenomenon has doubled across generations.
According to the study, 59% of Gen Z and 64% of millennials are working in multiple roles. This trend offers employees additional income streams and professional development opportunities, though it also carries a risk of burnout. A Fiverr survey found that 67% of Gen Z individuals require multiple income sources for financial reasons.
While the trend gained traction during the pandemic, it has persisted. Employees are increasingly open about holding multiple positions, moving away from the previous need to conceal such arrangements. Yakov Filippenko, CEO of Intch, notes that even within his company, employees hold multiple roles transparently, allowing them to pursue opportunities without leaving existing employment.
This shift may necessitate adjustments in hiring practices. Employers might need to re-evaluate how they interpret career paths, potentially viewing multiple concurrent roles as a sign of depth and diverse skill acquisition rather than a lack of focus.
