Holmen plans to invest SEK 400 million into its Iggesund Sawmill to enhance processing capabilities and boost production capacity to over 450,000 cubic meters. The expansion includes upgrades to log sorting and the construction of a new planing facility, designed to address existing production bottlenecks.

The investment allows the facility to shift its product mix from joinery spruce toward construction-grade pine and spruce timber. By diversifying its output, the company intends to increase sales volume specifically within the Scandinavian builders’ merchant segment.

CEO Henrik Sjölund stated that the move is part of a broader corporate strategy to increase the value of its forest assets. Holmen’s wood products division, which operates five sawmills, reported a turnover of SEK 4.7 billion over the previous twelve months.

The sawmill project is scheduled to begin operations in autumn 2023, with the facility expected to reach its full increased capacity by the end of 2024.
