Holmen Board & Paper enhances Medicube packaging
South Korean beauty brand Medicube has renewed the packaging for its AGE-R beauty device using Holmen's Invercote paperboard. The redesign aims to improve product protection and elevate the brand experience.

Medicube, a fast-growing K-beauty brand under South Korean cosmetics company APR, has updated the packaging for its flagship AGE-R beauty device utilizing Invercote paperboard from Holmen Board & Paper. The objective was to enhance product protection during transit and refine the initial customer experience.
The brand found the original magnetic one-touch box, while visually appealing, lacked sufficient protection, leading to transit damage and a perception that did not align with a premium device. Medicube sought a packaging solution that would ensure safety while also improving the first touchpoint with the brand.
"Our main objectives were safety and experience," stated Jieun Nam, Head of Product Planning at Medicube. "Customers should feel confident their device is safe, and at the same time, the act of opening the box should feel like unwrapping something designed with precision and care."
The choice of Invercote was driven by its material properties. The new rigid top-and-bottom packaging structure provides enhanced protection for the device and creates a staged unboxing experience. The paperboard's dimensional stability allowed for precise finishing without warping or sagging.
Nam also noted improvements in print quality. "Print quality was a revelation. Previous paperboards produced a harsh whiteness that clashed with our subtle palette. Invercote rendered colours with natural brightness and depth, making our gray and white identity look refined, never artificial."
