Holmen completes acquisition of Martinsons, strengthening wood products business
Holmen has officially completed the acquisition of Martinsons, a move that integrates the company's sawmill operations into Holmen's wood products division. The ownership change took effect on October 1.
Holmen announced the formal completion of its acquisition of Martinsons on October 1, following an agreement made over the summer. The Martinsons sawmill in Bygdsiljum will now become part of Holmen Wood Products, increasing the division's scale.
Johan Pade, Holmen's Senior Vice President of Wood Products, stated that the integration aims to build on Martinsons' existing strengths, including specialized expertise and a focus on quality. "This acquisition will make Holmen a company with an incredible breadth and depth of expertise in wood products and wood construction," Pade said during a handover ceremony.
Lars Martinson, former CEO of Martinsons, expressed confidence in Holmen as a long-term owner. "Holmen is the stable and long-term owner we were looking for," Martinson commented. He highlighted shared company cultures and a mutual desire for business development as key factors for future growth.
The acquisition also addresses raw material sourcing. Holmen, a major wood buyer in Sweden, maintains established relationships with forest owners. Sören Peterson, Holmen's Senior Vice President of Forest, emphasized the company's commitment to a secure purchasing process for forest owners and the potential synergies with Martinsons' specialization in wood construction.
Together, Holmen and Martinsons aim to create a robust value chain from forest to finished wood buildings, focusing on developing the sustainable wood construction industry.
