Holmen Expands Lightweight Containerboard Range
Holmen Board and Paper has introduced new additions to its lightweight containerboard portfolio, utilizing fresh fiber in the fluting layer.
Swedish forest industry company Holmen Board and Paper has expanded its product range with new lightweight containerboard options. The company announced in late May 2026 the introduction of solutions that incorporate fresh fiber in the fluting layer.
These new products aim to meet the packaging industry's increasing demand for lighter yet durable packaging materials. The use of fresh fiber reduces the weight of packaging, which in turn lowers transportation costs and environmental impact.
Holmen has focused on product development supporting circular economy principles and low-carbon solutions in recent years. The company previously announced new papers for books and magazines, as well as lightweight kraftliner, all seeking to improve printing performance and sustainability.
In November 2025, Holmen's two business areas, Holmen Iggesund and Holmen Paper, were merged into a single business area, Holmen Board and Paper. This consolidation is part of the company's strategy to streamline operations and enhance its focus on fiber-based solutions across various markets.
