Home Assistant tests Live USB installation for x86-64 hardware
Home Assistant has introduced a Live USB option in its latest alpha build, allowing the operating system to run directly from external media on x86-64 devices.
Open-source smart home platform Home Assistant has released an alpha update, version 0.0.0-alpha.4, which includes a Live USB installation feature for x86-64 architecture. The update aims to streamline the setup process for users running the operating system on mini-PCs.
The current installation procedure requires users to create a bootable drive and write the system image to a target hard drive. The Live USB functionality enables the OS to operate directly from a USB stick, bypassing the need to modify internal storage during the initial deployment phase.
The update also integrates a full-screen interface, integrity checks for system images, and enhanced warnings regarding data erasure on storage devices. These features are currently in the proof-of-concept stage, with no confirmed date for a release in the stable production branch.
