Homey launches new smart home controller with rotary dial

Homey, the Dutch-based smart home platform owned by LG, has introduced a new device named the Homey Portal. This touchscreen controller aims to simplify smart home device management by offering a physical rotary dial for controlling lights, climate, music, and more.

The product addresses a need for a more streamlined smart home experience, as many current systems are complex compared to traditional switches. The Homey Portal features a 2.8-inch round touchscreen display and a stainless steel dial. The device can be placed on a desk or mounted on a wall.

The Homey Portal is available for preorder at an introductory price of $249/€249, with shipments expected to begin in December. The unit is powered via a USB-C cable. Users can control devices by tapping icons on the screen and then fine-tuning settings with the rotary dial.

Homey's objective is to provide a more intuitive and physical way to interact with one's smart home, reducing the complexity that has become common as smart home technology has advanced.
