Honasa Consumer, the Indian beauty and personal care company behind brands like Mamaearth, The Derma Co, BBlunt, and Dr. Sheth’s, is expanding into the fragrance market with the launch of a new brand, FIKN. The company will offer elixir-based perfumes under this new label.

According to CEO Varun Alagh, the fragrance category is projected to be the fastest-growing segment in India’s beauty and personal care market over the next decade. While fragrances drive significant retail beauty growth in the US, the Indian market remains underpenetrated. This presents an opportunity for Honasa, especially as the e-commerce share of fragrance sales continues to grow.

To compete in the crowded fragrance market, Honasa is focusing on strengthening both its online and offline presence. The company has narrowed its direct distribution focus to 100 cities and is optimizing its physical store count within these markets. A recent supply chain restructuring, known as Project Neev, has given Honasa greater control over inventory and improved its distribution capabilities.

E-commerce remains a key growth driver for Honasa, with over 20% growth recorded in Q1 FY27. The company sees quick commerce as a "branded purchase play," where consumers actively seek specific brands. Honasa believes this channel offers significant potential for market share gains, particularly in smaller cities.

The FIKN launch marks Honasa's second foray into fragrances; a previous attempt under the Mamaearth brand did not achieve sufficient market fit. The company has learned that success in the fine fragrance market requires a primary focus on the scent itself.
