Honda Reportedly Developing Accord-Based Hatchback SUV for 2029

Honda is reportedly developing a new crossover-style hatchback based on the Accord, with production expected to begin by mid-2029. The vehicle is anticipated to be manufactured at Honda's Marysville, Ohio, plant, signaling a renewed attempt in this segment for the automaker.

This move comes as Honda pivots its strategy to prioritize hybrid powertrains, aiming to invest nearly $28 billion by 2030 and introduce 15 new hybrid models. The new model, internally referred to as an "Accord SUV," would feature increased ground clearance and a hatchback design, echoing the concept of the previous Accord Crosstour, which was discontinued in 2017.

The upcoming model is expected to share its platform and powertrain with the next-generation Accord sedan, which is also undergoing development. It will feature Honda's next-generation hybrid system, which will later be implemented in other key models like the Civic and CR-V.

Details suggest the new Accord generation will incorporate updated styling, including slimmer headlights, redesigned taillights, and a revised grille. The interior is expected to receive a larger infotainment screen. A prototype resembling this direction was shown earlier this year, with production slated within the next two years, preceding the "Accord SUV."
