Hong Kong implements stricter oversight for building maintenance
The Hong Kong SAR government is launching a centralized database to track maintenance projects and contractors, supported by a new oversight body.

The Hong Kong government will initiate the first phase of a centralized digital database for building maintenance records in May or June 2027. This repository will track both ongoing projects and the professional credentials of contractors involved in urban repair work.
In addition to the database, the government is establishing a public body tasked with assisting building owners and management committees. This entity will provide guidance on tender processes and project management to prevent potential malpractice in the repair sector.
This shift in policy follows increasing concerns regarding the safety and quality of building upkeep in the region. By digitizing records and providing institutional support, officials aim to mitigate risks associated with building dilapidation and improve overall regulatory compliance across the territory.
