Honka Introduces Harri Koskinen-Designed Kontti Cabin Collection

Finnish log house manufacturer Honkarakenne Oyj has unveiled the Kontti collection, designed by award-winning industrial designer Harri Koskinen. The collection features compact and modern log cabins aimed at providing a natural and relaxed living experience, suitable for holiday homes and traveler accommodation. The collection was first showcased at the Housing Fair Finland in Pori in July 2018.

The Kontti cabins are designed to blend with their natural surroundings, featuring large windows for unobstructed views. A terrace accessible from the bedroom, with privacy wings, allows for multiple cabins to be placed adjacently. The design emphasizes minimalism, allowing nature to take center stage.

"These are cabins where you can focus on what really matters and become one with nature," stated Harri Koskinen. "The design premise was to eliminate everything unnecessary: the surrounding landscape plays the leading role."

The versatile cabins can serve as tourist accommodation, guest houses, studios, or even offices. Available with both pent and pitched roofs, they can be easily combined with other structures. Their compact size allows for transportation via truck.

According to Anne Mäkinen, Head Architect at Honkarakenne, the collection addresses a growing global demand for sustainable travel and compact housing models. "We wanted to introduce a compact and modern cabin collection that could be used for both accommodation and complementary construction," she said. The company also highlighted the collection as an extension of Finnish design onto the global stage.
