Honka to Build Finland’s Largest CLT Log Hotel in Tornio

Honkarakenne Oyj is set to construct Finland’s largest log hotel to date on the banks of the Tornionjoki River, near the city center of Tornio. This development is positioned to significantly enhance Lapland's tourism offerings, responding to the growing demand from both leisure and business travelers.

The Tornio-Haparanda area is rapidly emerging as a new tourism hub in Lapland. Hotels in the city have maintained high occupancy rates, exceeding 70% year-round for several years. An anticipated direct rail link from Central Europe, scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, is expected to attract an increasing number of international and climate-conscious tourists.

The multi-story CLT log hotel, part of Honka's MultiStorey concept, offers architectural freedom combined with structural durability, fire safety, and healthy indoor air. As part of Tornio's development goals to become a sustainable travel destination, the hotel will incorporate a comprehensive spa, a traditional smoke sauna, and an outdoor pool, developed in collaboration with a future spa operator.

This investment underpins the economic vitality of the Tornio region, bolstered by its diverse industrial base. The new hotel will cater to both tourists and the consistent stream of business travelers drawn to the area's thriving industries. Its location, just 200 meters from the railway station and 500 meters from the city center, further enhances its accessibility.
