Honka wins two plot allocations for Järvenpää housing area

Honkarakenne Oyj, a manufacturer of log houses, has secured two winning proposals through a design and plot allocation contest organized by the City of Järvenpää in Southern Finland. In collaboration with partners, the company's concepts for "Pihakvartetti" (Courtyard Quartet) and "Vanhiksen lyhdyt" (Vanhis Lanterns) were selected to develop a new residential area named Anni-tädin kylä.

The "Pihakvartetti" project will comprise four apartment blocks, utilizing a hybrid construction model with a low-carbon concrete frame and non-settling lamellar log exterior walls. This approach aims to combine material benefits while advancing log construction. Honka is partnering with VRP Etelä-Suomi and Sweco for this development, which also incorporates energy-efficient solutions like geothermal heating and solar power.

The "Vanhiksen lyhdyt" project focuses on terraced houses designed with a strong emphasis on traditional architecture and community living. This part of the development will offer family-oriented housing, leveraging Honka's expertise in log construction alongside the local knowledge of Suomen Hyvä Koti Oy and architectural design by Antti Ek.

Both winning concepts prioritize sustainability, community, and quality living environments. Honka CEO Marko Saarelainen stated that the company is committed to producing healthier, higher-quality housing with a reduced carbon footprint, aligning with these new developments. The selected proposals are expected to contribute to sustainable urban development in Järvenpää.
