Horizon Robotics and Volkswagen Deepen AI Partnership in China
Horizon Robotics and Volkswagen Group announced an expanded collaboration in China focused on AI-powered vehicle solutions. Through their joint venture CARIZON, they will develop a unified AI driving system for Volkswagen.
Horizon Robotics and Volkswagen Group are strengthening their technological cooperation in China, focusing on AI-powered vehicle platforms and solutions.
The collaboration will be channeled through CARIZON, a joint venture established by the two companies. CARIZON will leverage Horizon Robotics' advanced large AI models to independently develop and accelerate the construction of a unified AI driving system for Volkswagen Group's vehicles in China. This system aims to enable Level 3 and Level 4 autonomous driving capabilities.
The new AI driving system will be integrated with Volkswagen's locally developed regional electronic and electrical architecture (CEA), allowing for flexible deployment across multiple vehicle platforms and diverse models. This integration is intended to support both future passenger cars and autonomous taxi (Robotaxi) applications.
Advanced driver-assistance solutions powered by this system are already entering production and will be integrated into seven new electrified models from Volkswagen Group's joint ventures in China starting in the third quarter of this year. Deliveries for Volkswagen's L3 autonomous driving capability are projected to begin in the second half of 2027, with gradual expansion to broader CEA-based product lines.
