House Destroyed by Fire in Dresden

A single-family home in Dresden's Cossebaude district was completely destroyed in a major fire that broke out overnight into Saturday. According to the fire department, nothing remains of the house. The two residents managed to escape the burning building unharmed and are currently staying with relatives.

Due to strong winds, there was a risk of the fire spreading to a neighboring house, whose occupants were evacuated as a precaution. Approximately 70 firefighters and multiple fire engines were involved in the extinguishing efforts. A public warning was issued via emergency apps and social media due to heavy smoke and flying sparks that ignited nearby trees, but this has since been lifted.

Initial firefighting efforts were hampered by an insufficient water supply, forcing a temporary withdrawal of personnel. Later, several water tender vehicles shuttled water to the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the police.

The house is a total loss, and the residents are temporarily housed with relatives. The police have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. No other injuries were reported.
