Hovmand lifting device reduces back pain at Danish nursing home
Kitchen staff at a Danish nursing home have experienced significantly reduced back pain following the implementation of a lifting device from Hovmand A/S. The investment improves work safety and employee well-being.

Hovmand A/S has supplied a lifting device to a Danish nursing home's kitchen, where staff previously suffered from back issues due to daily heavy lifting. Before the device's implementation, employees weekly had to lift and move boxes and bags of groceries weighing up to 12 kilograms. The total weekly lifting load could amount to as much as 3,300 kilograms.
Municipal physiotherapists noted the repetitive and non-ergonomic lifting motions that were straining the staff's backs. A solution was needed to prevent long-term wear and tear and improve occupational safety. The solution needed to be easy to operate and space-saving.
Hovmand's "Impact 70" lifting device was chosen as a suitable solution. The device allows staff to easily lift and lower items using its platform. This eliminates the need to bend and strain over heavy objects, significantly reducing back strain. The device is now used in five nursing homes and two specialized centers.
Staff report significant improvements in their working conditions. Although it initially required some adaptation to use the device, employees find it greatly facilitates their daily work. The positive impact on well-being has been so substantial that staff have begun considering new uses, such as transporting hot pots by changing the device's platform.
The municipality views the investment as a signal of appreciation and commitment to staff welfare. This is particularly important in the current climate of labor shortages, where employers must focus more on improving the work environment to attract and retain employees.
