HP appoints Emma Walmsley as new CEO

HP Inc. has named former GlaxoSmithKline CEO Emma Walmsley as its new chief executive officer, effective January 4, 2027.

4 November 2026

HP Inc. announced that Emma Walmsley will assume the role of CEO in early 2027. She succeeds interim CEO Bruce Broussard, who took over following the departure of Enrique Lores in February. Upon Walmsley’s commencement on January 4, Broussard will transition to the role of chairman of the board.

Walmsley joins HP following a nine-year tenure at the helm of pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline. Her leadership there involved significant corporate restructuring, including the spin-off of the consumer health division, Haleon, and a doubling of R&D investment. Despite these initiatives, her tenure faced scrutiny from investors due to stagnant share performance and pressure from activist investors regarding the company's long-term direction.

As she transitions to the technology sector, Walmsley will leverage her experience from both GSK and her current board position at Microsoft. HP’s share price remained largely stable following the announcement, reflecting a cautious market reception to the leadership change.
