Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) announced on September 30 that it has secured its first order for AMD's "Helios" AI rack systems. The $1.2 billion contract comes from Vultr, a provider of private cloud infrastructure.

This significant order highlights the growing demand for specialized AI hardware and strengthens HPE's position in the competitive AI infrastructure market. The "Helios" system integrates 72 AMD Instinct MI455X GPU accelerators per rack, connected via Juniper Networking's QFX5252 Ethernet switches, utilizing high-bandwidth, low-latency Ethernet connections.

The deal also reflects the continued integration following HPE's acquisition of Juniper Networks, as Vultr is also a partner of Juniper. HPE has previously supplied Vultr with AI racks based on NVIDIA solutions.

HPE anticipates that these AMD-powered systems will enhance Vultr's capabilities in artificial intelligence and machine learning workloads, underscoring the trend of cloud providers investing in advanced hardware to meet evolving computational needs.
